Artist's Comments

So, for my Professional Bullshitting Class ....er... Creative Industries: Approaching Interdisciplinarity class, we had to make a poetic response to "October 2009:Eighty Years On", because in October it will be eighty years since the Great Depression.

This is my poetic response.

EVERYTHING HAS A MEANING. FIND THE MEANINGS. IT'S LIKE WHERE'S WALLY AND EYE-SPY ONLY COOLER.

Or something.

Feel free to have a staring contest with her. She'll win, though. And maybe take your soul.

Tick: Death. The eternal blink. The capricious dance of Now Ya Stop Movin' Forever. Well contrary to popular belief, death isn't just for dead people. It can happen to anyone.

That's all paper money is anymore. Monopoly money. It's monitized debt with no hard assets to back it up, printed by a private bank, and sold to the US for face value plus interest (the national debt) keeping a never ending system of compounding interest, forcing the government to sell off hard assets (gold, infastructure, control) until someone (a president or congress) abolishes the system completely and ends the cycle. We're essentially spending monopoly money, as the perception of it's worth is the only value it has. Paper money was originally a receipt to say that you had deposited X amount of gold or silver into a bank redeemable in full...we're walking around with a bunch of worthless receipts representing public debt to a privately owned bank. That's pretty much what that's all about. :)

Nice. Love the monopoly money.

Thanks! I was originally going to use real money (particularly because Australian money is so colourful), but I feel that monopoly money better illustrated my point.
